4th PIU Congress

On 10–11 May, the 4th Congress of the Polish Insurance Association – the most important discussion forum for the insurance industry in Poland – was held. This year’s Congress was attended by the largest ever number of representatives of the Polish Parliament, the Senate, ministries and government offices. Like every year, management board representatives of almost all Polish insurance companies came to Sopot.

The Congress was opened by:

  • Jacek Karnowski, PhD – Mayor of Sopot
  • Józef Zych, PhD – Judge of the State Tribunal, Speaker of the Polish Parliament in 1995–1997
  • Andrzej Jaworski – Chairman of the Committee for Public Finance, Polish Parliament
  • Grzegorz Bierecki – Chairman of the Committee for Budget and Public Finance, Polish Senate
  • Adam Hamryszczak – Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Development
  • Andrzej Lewiński – Deputy Inspector General for the Protection of Personal Data

This year’s meeting concerned legal regulations and their unpredictability. As J. Grzegorz Prądzyński, President of the Board of PIU, stated in his opening presentation, regulations in the insurance industry are the only element immune to prognoses and statistics.

On the first day, the panel discussions concerned attractiveness of the insurance industry as well as the economic consequences of law-making. The first day of the Congress ended with a lecture given by Natalia Hatalska, entitled “Technology in blood. Insurance of the future”.

The second day of the Congress was dedicated primarily to consumer issues – to consumerism in terms of new legal regulations, and to unpredictability in the area of personal damage.

When closing the Congress, J. Grzegorz Prądzyński mentioned the great importance of insurance for the economy, and the crucial meaning of cooperation between insurance companies in the creation of the best possible standards.

The discussion panels were observed by almost 250 attendees. Photos from the Congress and videos presenting individual discussion panels will be provided on the PIU website soon.
