Insurance supported by the state
Subsidised insurance policies for farmers were introduced with regard to damages that may affect all the crops. These are damages caused by natural forces, such as flooding, hail and drought. These policies are mandatory. The farmer must insure at least half of their crops. Premium is subsidized by the state budget. Protection may be extended to all crops popular in Poland – ranging from cereals to vegetables and fruit. With this policy a farmer whose crops were affected by disaster, has a guarantee to rebuild the crop with the insurance money.

Currently subsidised insurance policies are offered by three companies in Poland. They are: Concordia, PZU, TUW TUW. Subsidised policies apply only to crops located on the territory of Poland The farmer is obliged to conclude the insurance contract against at least one of the following risks: flood, drought, hail, the negative effects of winter or spring frost. Remember that the agreement must be concluded no later than July 1, each year. Before we conclude the contract, the company may ask for documents relating to direct payments from the EU.

The insurance is concluded for a year, premium is paid at once or in installments. Premiums are subsidized by the state budget. If you choose an installments option, you have to remember to pay premiums on time. The amount of subsidy is regulated each year by the Council of Ministers, but it can be also easily found in the General Terms and Conditions of Insurance. Remember to notify the insurance company of any circumstances that could affect the probability of damage on the farm.

In case of a damage, we are obliged to notify the insurance company as soon as possible. All information on the type of documents and data our insurer will need can be found in General Terms and Conditions. We will difiinitely have to specify the destroyed crop and what was the reason for its damage. The insurance company is obliged to pay us not only due compensation, but also cover the expenses we have incurred in order to prevent the spread of the damage. The terms and time of payment are exactly determined in the contract.
